Mailman Mailing Lists

Comprehensive management of email and e-newsletter lists, with powerful administration and tracking.

Mailman is a high-powered software application for managing communications to email and e-newsletter lists. With online management, it makes it easy for users to manage their accounts and for list owners to administrate. Mailman contains built-in archiving and supports automatic bounce processing, content filtering, digest delivery, spam filters and more.

Mailman Mailing List is a separate account module within Intermedia's award-winning HostPilot Control Panel. Because of this and the fact that Mailman resides on its own server, it is a high-throughput and reliable way to send mass emails. We allow lists with up to 100,000 members, with the number of allowed lists dependent upon your plan.

Here are some of the main Mailman features:

• High-performance. Mail delivery with extremely high throughput and a scalable architecture. Mailman's mail delivery pipeline is extensible.
• Web based administration. List administration for nearly all tasks is online, including list configuration, moderation (post approvals), management of user accounts. Subscribing and unsubscribing to lists and user configuration management are also done via the Web. Users can temporarily disable their accounts, select digest modes, hide their email addresses from other members, etc. Majordomo-style email based commands can be utilized.
• Per-list configuration. A customizable home page for each mailing list, with per-list privacy features, such as closed-subscriptions, private archives, private membership rosters, and sender-based posting rules. Configurable (per-list and per-user) delivery mode.
• Integrated features. Useful features come as standard, such as bounce detection within an extensible framework and automatic disposition of bouncing addresses (disable, unsubscribe). Spam filters, Usenet gatewaying and auto-reply functionality are also integrated. Mailman has built-in Web-based archiving, with hooks for external archivers such as MHonArc
• Flexibility. Multiple list owners and moderators are possible. Mailman contains support for virtual domains and runs on GNU/Linux and most Unix-like systems. It is compatible with most Web servers and browsers, and most SMTP servers. Requires Python 2.1.3 or newer.

A mailing list (like a mail server) depends on DNS in its operations. We set up a special third-level domain "list.your_domain.name" for each domain with a mailing list. As with mail servers, mailing lists only become operational when the DNS is updated. This is also true for the mailing list management interface, which also becomes available only when the DNS is updated.
